How Do I Select the Right Coach for Me?

Selecting a Meta-Coach, much like selecting a therapist or even creating a friendship or relationship is a highly-personal choice. Obviously, references are a good place to start, and a Coach should have certain credentials and some experience.

Do some internet or library research.

Meta-Coaches can be difficult to find, but many have websites with a wealth of specific information. You can learn a lot about a Coach by the tone or voice of their writing.

Try a telephone call with a Coach you've decided could be right for you.

First, were they easy to reach? Did they return your phone call or email promptly? Was it easy to find their contact information? Don't be afraid to ask questions about their experience, their credentials, their approach, their conversation style.

Most importantly, do you feel comfortable talking to them? Remember, they're going to help you achieve your potential by your revealing and discussing not only your specific issue, but your underlying thought processes, feelings and methods. They will ask you to face very personal questions about yourself. The right coach for you will be genuinely interested in your personal achievement and you'll progress more easily with someone whom you feel comfortable.

A good Meta-Coach does not judge, impose their own beliefs on you, try to change your goals, lecture or make your decisions for you.

Ask people you know for referrals.

Do you know someone who has found fulfillment, success and purpose through Meta-Coaching? Be sure to ask about their positive as well as negative experiences.

But don't feel pressured to choose a specific coach referred to you by a friend or family member.

It's your life, your agenda, and your time and money.
